Alvaro De Leon had the opportunity to work with Joel as a guide for the Deaf in Guatemala. During their time together, Joel showed him many hidden gems around the country, including villages, mountains, volcanoes, and more. They also met many local Deaf people along the way. Throughout their travels, Joel shared his dream of opening a local Deaf school, which Alvaro fully supported. Later, Joel surprised Alvaro with a visit to the newly opened Deaf school in Antigua. The entire experience was captioned for accessibility.
